Ammonia Cracker



Ammonia Cracker Ammonia cracker plant makes use of the purest form of ammonia, also called anhydrous ammonia to produce hydrogen gas required for various industrial applications. Although hydrogen is required in many industrial processes, it's not at all safe. Ammonia overcomes this disadvantage of hydrogen. Ammonia (NH3) contains almost 75% hydrogen and 25% nitrogen, which get released at the time of cracking. The hydrogen released after the cracking of ammonia is perfectly suitable for industrial use and hazard free too.

The ammonia gas is dissociated at a temperature of 920°C in the presence of the catalytic agent named nickel, in an electrically heated furnace. The cracked ammonia gas is primarily used in heat treatment applications like sintering, brazing, bright annealing, etc.

The advanced ammonia cracker plants are fully automatic and requires minimal maintenance. They are also very compact in size. The common application areas of contemporary ammonia crackers include refrigeration industry, chemical industry, agriculture & livestock farming, and medical sector.


Process :
The chemical reaction carried is as follows:
The cracked gas production amounts to 2.63 NM3 per kg of ammonia feed stock., with residual ammonia content less than 20 ppm and dew points upto (-) 50 Deg. C.

Certain applications specify the need of gas having extremely low residual ammonia contents and very low gas dew point. Such high quality of clean and dry protective gas can be achieved by employing MOLECULAR SIEVE PURIFIER after the ammonia cracker. After the purifier ammonia contents fall below a 3 ppm and dew point of gas improves upto ( - ) 80 Deg. C.
