Ammonia Cracker


Ammonia Cracker The role of hydrogen is indispensible in the gas equipment industry. Since it is difficult to find hydrogen in its pure form, ammonia gas is taken as the substitute as it has maximum percentage of hydrogen in it. Ammonia cracker breaks down ammonia gas (NH3) releasing 75% hydrogen and 25% nitrogen using anhydrous ammonia form the cylinders. The resultant gas is very dry and free from oxygen.

The dissociation of ammonia gas takes place in the presence of a nickel catalyst at a temperature of 850 Deg. C to 900 Deg. C. in an electrically heated or feul fired furnace. The cracked gas production amounts to 2.63 NM3 per kg of ammonia feed stock., with residual ammonia content less than 20 ppm and dew points upto (-) 50 Deg. C.

Certain applications specify the need of gas having extremely low residual ammonia contents and very low gas dew point. Such high quality of clean and dry protective gas can be achieved by employing MOLECULAR SIEVE PURIFIER after the ammonia cracker. After the purifier ammonia contents fall below a 3 ppm and dew point of gas improves upto ( - ) 80 Deg. C.
